November 29th, 2024

DisCo-I Specialised Online Webinar, “Inequalities in health", with a particular focus on gender inequalities and the challenges related to measuring gender issues, was delivered by Professor Chiara Seghieri from the Istituto di Management, EMbeDS Scuola Superiore Sant' Anna, Pisa, Italy. During the session, critical factors driving health inequalities were examined, their impact was explored, and the importance of addressing these issues in current research was highlighted. A spotlight was placed on gender inequalities, highlighting the challenges of measuring and integrating gender perspectives in scientific studies.


Furthermore, the DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates had the chance to participate in the Specialised Online Webinar, “CE-MS data evaluation and the specific challenges in peptidomics”, presented by Professor Harald Mischak from Mosaiques Diagnostics GmbH, Hannover, Germany. During the session, the Doctoral Candidates explored the fundamentals of capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry (CE-MS) analysis, gained insights into key considerations for data analysis, and discovered results from studies using this powerful technique. It was an inspiring opportunity for the students to deepen their understanding of peptidome analysis and apply these insights to their ongoing research.

November 13th to 15th, 2024

The DisCo-I 2nd "Transferable skills and competences training course" together with the Workshop “Applying -omics in research”, and annual meeting took place in Athens, Greece. Doctoral Candidates, Primary Investigators, and other participants enhanced their transferable skills and competencies through insightful lectures delivered by international speakers. The workshop provided a dynamic platform to explore the application of omics in research, with productive discussions following each presentation. At the Annual Meeting, all Doctoral Candidates showcased their progress, engaged in meaningful conversations with peers and supervisors, and exchanged innovative ideas to enhance their ongoing research.

Dr. Agnieszka Latosinska was invited to be the guest editor in the PROTEOMICS journal for the Special Issue focused on Omics in the Personalized Management of Cardiovascular and Kidney Disease.

October 15th, 2024

The DisCo-I Specialised Online Webinar, “From Bench to Bedside Translation" offered Doctoral Candidates and Primary Investigators a valuable opportunity to explore key ethical considerations in research involving animal models. Participants also better understood the current standards and the critical transition from pre-clinical findings to clinical application. 

September 17th, 2024

The specialised Online Webinar, “Metabolic Activation of fibroblast in obesity and related disorders of the kidney, heart, and liver”, was organized by Nordic Bioscience. The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates had the opportunity to be part of this engaging session, which provided valuable insights into the critical role fibroblasts play in metabolic disorders. The presentations highlighted recent research findings and explored the therapeutic potential of modulating fibroblast activity to improve patient outcomes. It was an excellent chance to learn more and discuss new ideas.

September 6th to 7th, 2024

The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates Ioanna Mina (DC1), Teresa Frattini (DC5), and  Mayra Jaimes (DC6) participated in the Workshop and Management Committee Meeting organized by the COST Action PerMediK (CA21165) and the Scientific and  Business Meeting organised by the EUTox Work Group of the ESAO in Naples, Italy. The events provided valuable insights into applying multidimensional omics data in the context of chronic kidney disease. Additionally the Doctoral Candidates had the opportunity to present their research findings.

June 20th to 21st, 2024

Nordic Bioscience organized a hands-on training course on ELISA development in Copenhagen, Denmark.  During this session, the DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates explored the process from biomarker discovery to industrial application, delving into theoretical concepts and practical techniques. They gained hands-on experience in developing, practicing, and analyzing the ELISA method, enhancing their skills and knowledge of this essential research tool.

June 17th to 19th, 2024

The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates had the opportunity to present the results of their research projects at the Extracellular Matrix Congress (ECM 2024). The event, which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, selected the DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates for both poster and oral presentations. This experience allowed them to share their findings with an international audience and provided a fantastic platform to refine their presentation skills and engage in enriching scientific discussions.

April 4th, 2024

The specialised Onlined Webinar, “Fibrosis as a Driver of Cancer, Liver, and Heart-related Outcomes”, was organized by Nordic Bioscience. The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates participated online in the specialised webinar covering topics including the extracellular matrix in health and disease, the link between liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the impact of fibroblast activity, and collagen biomarkers as predictors of outcomes in liver, heart, and cancer.

March 22nd to 23th 2024

The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates were virtually present at the event, organized by e-SPACE Cardio-Renal-Metabolic and dedicated to the latest cardiorenal metabolic disease treatment strategies to support better patient outcomes. The event covered updates on KDIGO CKD guidelines, discussions on multidisciplinary strategies for heart failure therapy, weight homeostasis in Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolic Systems diseases, and evidence-based treatments like SGLT2i and GLP-1RA. It fostered cross-collaboration among healthcare professionals for better patient outcomes.

March 27th, 2024 and April 18th 2024

Felix Keller from the Medical University of Innsbruck conducted two virtual follow-up sessions for the DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates through an R/statistics training course. The objective was to enable them to integrate robust statistical methods and tools into their research projects, ensuring a solid foundation in data analysis. 

March 1st to 2nd, 2024

The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates virtually joined the workshop organized by the COST Action PerMediK (CA21165). The workshop included presentations on the application of multidimensional -omics data in the context of chronic kidney disease. Doctoral Candidate Ioanna Mina (DC1) had the opportunity to present her research findings during the event.

February 8th, 2024

The DisCo-I Specialised Online Webinars, “Planning and writing the grant proposal” (Flore Duranton, RD-Nephrologie, France) and “Time and project management” (Dr. Agnieszka Latosinska, Mosaiques Diagnostics, Germany) provided the DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates with valuable knowledge and practical skills for applying for funding and effectively managing their projects. The students from Wroclaw Medical University also attended the seminars. 

November 15th to 17th, 2023

The 1st Transferable Skills and Competences Training Courses, the workshop "Fibrosis and Chronic Diseases: Clinical Aspects and Disease Models," and the midterm meeting of the DisCo-I project were held in Toulouse, France. The training courses and workshop featured presentations by international experts, including researchers and clinicians, offering in-depth insights into the clinical aspects of fibrosis and models for fibrosis research and equipping the Doctoral Candidates with essential skills to advance their careers and research practices. During the midterm meeting, the Doctoral Candidates presented their research findings, shared their academic progress, and received valuable feedback from peers, supervisors, and the project officer.

September 14th and 15th, 2023

The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates received comprehensive training on the use of multi-omic data for disease investigation during the Training School of the COST Action PerMediK (CA21165) "Computational Ecosystem for Medical Big Data," held in Athens/Loutraki, Greece. They also had the opportunity to present the objectives of the DisCo-I project and the specific objectives of their individual work packages within the project.

July 24th to 27th, 2023

Felix Keller from the Medical University of Innsbruck led a hands-on statistics training course for the DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates in Hannover, Germany. The course focused on robust statistical methods and their application in biomedical studies using the R programming language.

April 25th, 2023

The webinar "Treatment of Data According to the FAIR Principles," presented by Dr. Cecilie Bager, Head of Data Science at Nordic Bioscience, provided the DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their transferable skills and competencies, focusing specifically on data management.

March 3rd and 4th, 2023

The DisCo-I Doctoral Candidates virtually participated in the Management Committee and Working Group meeting of the COST Action PerMediK (CA21165). This event allowed them to attend presentations by multiple international researchers on the topic of big data for personalized medicine.

December 5th, 2022

The DisCo-I Kick-off meeting was held in Hannover, Germany, offering the Doctoral Candidates and Primary Investigators the opportunity to meet in person. During the meeting, participants discussed the project's objectives and organizational framework, fostering collaboration and a shared understanding of the research directions.
